Modern Slavery: Identification and response in the NHS

Thursday 24 January 2019, 6pm - 8pm

Room 4A/B Cardiff SU

Event Information

1 in 8 health professionals will have been in contact with a victim of modern slavery in the UK – this rising to 1 in 5 for midwifery services. However, they probably do not have the knowledge or skills, or lack the confidence to help that person.

Modern Slavery is therefore an issue that NHS staff and all public service providers need to be able to identify and most importantly, need to know what to do if they suspect someone is a victim?

This workshop will cover facts such as what is Modern Slavery? The risk factors, prevalence and different types of modern slavery? We will also discuss the Health impacts of trafficking, identification of a victim in the NHS and critically, the safeguarding response to modern slavery.
