Orchard Live presents Freshers' Friday

Y Plas • Fri 27 September 2019 17:00-01:00

Cardiff University Students' Union is an institution in Cardiff for hosting live music all year round. In the past we’ve had the likes of Ellie Goulding, George Ezra and Coldplay perform on our stage and our year ahead is mega jam-packed full of live music goodness!

Join us in our own Freshers' festival featuring some great live music brought to you in partnership with Orchard LIVE and get a real taste of what Cardiff Box Office has to offer.

Edinburgh's own VISTAS have been surging to the fore-front of the indie-rock scene over the last few years with a steady stream of radio ready releases leading to nothing but praise from the likes of Radio 1's Huw Stephens. The Scottish trio have picked up over 15 million streams and cultivate 650k monthly listeners on Spotify and will support the likes of Circa Waves and FAtherson later this year. Catch 'em while you can this September!

This now 4-piece band started off as just a duo in the depths of Leeds University campus, making music as a side project; it wasn't long after they had a moment of realisation and began their artistic journey and became the 4 piece we know as KAWALA. The band plays a unique blend of music, describing their music as "Indie meets folk meets afrobeat," so it's really no surprise KAWALA's first collection of music soared to 5 million plus streams in a matter of months! Enjoy their infectious song writing, astonishing harmonies and impeccable live shows from your very own students' union.

The 3 piece band from South Wales are known for their unique fusion of garage rock with math influences; think Biffy Clyro, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Rage against the Machine. You may have heard CHROMA on radio stations such as Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Wales and even Radio 1 where they receive regular airplay from DJ Huw Stephens. CHROMA have also shared a bill with the likes of IDLES, Peace and Astroid Boys; they were also labelled as "ones to watch" by The 405 and you can watch them right here this September!

Cardiff's very own DJ duo, GRLTLK take to Cardiff University Students' Union stage after playing in some of Cardiff's best independent clubs and now spin tunes across the UK for some HUGE brands. You may have seen GRLTLK play at parties for the likes of Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Warehouse and Grazia magazine. This Cardiff duo have also supported some huge names, from the likes of fellow Welshman Huw Stephens to Zane Lowe and Aluna George - but they've always got time for little old us back in Cardiff and they'll be here this September!
